18kW Off-Grid Solar Power for a Remote Anguilla Estate
Operating a private estate away from dependable utility infrastructure requires more than a conventional residential solar installation. This 18kW off grid solar system project needed to support daily household comfort, refrigeration, internet access, entertainment equipment, lighting, and large evening gatherings without relying on grid electricity.
JSDSolar developed an 18kW off-grid solar system around six 3kW, 110V inverter units and eight 10kWh lithium batteries. The combined battery bank provides 80kWh of stored energy, giving the property a substantial reserve for nighttime operation, changing weather, and periods of increased demand.
The 18kW photovoltaic array is designed to generate approximately 100kWh per day under favorable solar conditions. Daytime production supports active loads while recharging the battery bank for use after sunset.
A Distributed Inverter Design for Flexible Load Management
Rather than relying on a single central inverter, the system uses six 3kW inverter units. This configuration supports the property’s 110V electrical requirements and allows power capacity to be distributed across different circuits or load groups.
The system supplies Wi-Fi equipment, refrigerators, air conditioners, televisions, lighting, and general estate appliances. Load planning was especially important because cooling equipment and refrigeration can operate for long periods, while guest events create short-term increases in evening electricity consumption.
Battery energy is available when solar output falls, allowing the estate to continue operating without a generator or utility connection under the intended load plan. The 80kWh bank also creates a larger buffer than a typical residential backup system.
Supporting Evening Events With More Than 100 Guests
A key operating requirement was the ability to host gatherings for more than 100 guests. These events increase lighting, cooling, entertainment, refrigeration, and service-area demand during hours when solar production is limited or unavailable.
The battery system stores energy generated earlier in the day and releases it as the evening load rises. Proper load prioritization helps protect critical services while allowing entertainment and hospitality equipment to remain available.
This project demonstrates that off-grid solar can support more than basic remote living. With suitable generation, storage, inverter capacity, and load planning, it can power a high-comfort property and accommodate demanding social events.
Actual system performance depends on weather, appliance use, battery settings, equipment condition, and seasonal solar exposure. For an isolated site, project planning should also consider reserve capacity, maintenance access, replacement parts, and backup operating procedures.
